OpenPipe

OpenPipe is a fine-tuning platform that turns expensive prompted LLM calls into cheaper, faster fine-tuned models, and later specialized in reinforcement learning for agents. It captures production request/response data, fine-tunes and evaluates models, and deploys them for cost-efficient serving. OpenPipe was acquired by CoreWeave in 2025 and its platform is migrating into the CoreWeave and Weights & Biases ecosystem, so it should now be evaluated as part of that stack.

OpenPipe started with a pragmatic pitch: many production LLM features run on long, expensive prompts to frontier models, and you can often capture that behavior in a smaller fine-tuned model that is cheaper and faster to serve. Its platform helped teams collect request/response data, fine-tune models (including open-source and hosted provider models), evaluate them, and deploy, effectively distilling expensive prompts into cost-efficient custom models. Over time OpenPipe expanded into reinforcement learning, positioning itself as a leader in RL for building and improving agents. This RL focus is what CoreWeave highlighted when it announced its acquisition of OpenPipe in 2025. Following the acquisition, OpenPipe's technology and team have been folding into CoreWeave's AI cloud, with the platform experience connected to Weights & Biases (which CoreWeave also owns). Because of these changes, OpenPipe should be evaluated as part of CoreWeave/Weights & Biases rather than as an independent product. Historically it used developer-friendly, usage-based pricing with no permanent free tier (a trial plus pay-as-you-go, with provider-hosted models billed at provider rates and enterprise plans on request).
