Module 1: Foundations

How AI is really changing marketing

The four genuine shifts — beyond the hype — that reshape a marketer's job.

AI has hit marketing harder and faster than most functions, but the hype obscures what's actually changing. Cut through it and there are four real shifts — and understanding them reframes your whole job.

1. Content production is near-free. Drafting copy, images, video, and endless variants now costs almost nothing. The durable consequence isn't "make more content" — it's that the bottleneck moved from production to judgment, editing, and distribution. When everyone can produce infinite content, more content is worth less, and distinctiveness, point of view, and proof become the scarce, valuable assets. This inversion underlies everything in the course.

2. Search is being reshaped by AI answers — the biggest structural change. AI Overviews and answer engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) now synthesize answers directly, so a large share of searches end without a click to any website. The game is shifting from "rank a link" to "be the cited source inside the AI's answer." This is the single most important shift for anyone doing SEO or content, and Module 2 is built around it.

3. Ad platforms went black-box. Meta's Advantage+ and Google's Performance Max increasingly handle creative, targeting, bidding, and placement automatically — you feed them a goal, budget, creative, and clean conversion data. The marketer's job shifts from manual targeting and bidding to feeding and guardrailing the algorithm (Module 3).

4. Personalization and agentic tools scaled. AI drives segmentation, predictive scoring, dynamic creative, and increasingly multi-step "agentic" workflows (research → score → personalize → deliver) — though most agentic marketing today is still human-in-the-loop, so separate what's shipping from the vaporware.

The honest framing to carry through this course: AI is a powerful force-multiplier on execution, but human judgment, taste, strategy, and accountability matter more, not less. AI has no point of view, no first-hand experience, and no stake in being right. It drafts, varies, summarizes, and analyzes at superhuman speed — and you decide what's worth saying, whether it's true, and whether it fits the brand. Marketers who use AI to amplify their judgment win; those who outsource their judgment to it produce generic, risky work. Keep that balance in mind as we go tool by tool.

Try it

For your role, name one task in each shift: something AI now makes near-free, how AI search affects your traffic, whether you use black-box ad platforms, and one place AI could personalize. This maps where AI matters for you.
