Speechify was founded by Cliff Weitzman, who built the product to help people with dyslexia and reading difficulties consume text as audio. The company is headquartered in the United States and has grown into one of the most popular consumer text-to-speech apps.

Beyond its core listening app, Speechify has expanded into AI voice-over generation, dubbing, and API access for developers and businesses. Its product line spans consumer subscriptions and creator- and enterprise-focused tools.

Speechify converts written content into spoken audio using natural AI voices, with support for 200-plus voices and 60-plus languages, adjustable reading speeds up to very high multiples, and offline downloads. It can read web pages, PDFs, documents, and scanned text via optical character recognition through browser extensions and mobile apps.

Additional products include Speechify Studio for AI voice-over and dubbing, plus API access for embedding text-to-speech into other applications. Premium tiers unlock the full voice library, higher speeds, and priority support.

Speechify targets students, busy professionals, and people with reading differences or accessibility needs who prefer to listen to content, as well as creators and businesses needing AI voice-over, dubbing, and TTS integration.

Speechify has raised venture funding to support its growth. It closed a Series A of approximately $15 million in 2022 led by investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners and GV. The company has also drawn backing from angel and early-stage investors including G9 Ventures. Reported revenue estimates place annual revenue in the high tens of millions of dollars.
