Outerbounds is a full MLOps and AI platform built around Metaflow, the open-source Python framework for data science and machine learning workflows that originated at Netflix. Metaflow lets data scientists write workflows as plain Python and scale them from a laptop to the cloud, with built-in versioning, orchestration, and compute scaling. Outerbounds packages this into a managed, production-grade platform that runs in a customer's own cloud account. The platform targets ML and AI developers and platform teams who want a turnkey solution rather than assembling infrastructure themselves. It handles compute orchestration, experiment tracking, deployment, and scaling for both classic ML and modern AI/LLM workloads, while keeping Metaflow itself open source and free to use independently. Outerbounds can be purchased and deployed via AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure marketplaces. In April 2026 Anaconda announced its acquisition of Outerbounds, committing to keep Metaflow open source and continue its development. Outerbounds competes with platforms like ZenML, MLflow-based stacks, and other end-to-end MLOps offerings, differentiating on the mature Metaflow developer experience and a human-centric, code-first approach.
