Magnific AI

Magnific was founded in 2023 in Murcia, Spain, by Javi Lopez and Emilio Nicolas. The tool went viral almost immediately after launch, signing up tens of thousands of users within 24 hours and reaching hundreds of thousands of registered users with no paid advertising. In 2024 it was acquired by Freepik, the large Spanish creative-asset and AI platform, with both founders staying on. Magnific continues to operate under its own brand while its upscaling technology also powers Freepik's broader image-enhancement and AI creative suite.

Magnific's core product is a generative upscaler that increases resolution up to 16x while reconstructing plausible new detail such as skin texture, foliage, and fabric. Users control results with creativity, resolution, HDR, and resemblance sliders plus an optional text prompt that guides what the model reconstructs. Following the Freepik acquisition, the platform expanded to include Relight (AI scene relighting), Style Transfer, Structure (compose from sketch), and the Mystic text-to-image generator, positioning Magnific as a full creative suite rather than a single-purpose tool.

Magnific targets professional and prosumer creatives: digital artists and illustrators, photographers, concept artists, product and e-commerce designers, and AI art creators upscaling generative outputs from tools like Midjourney. Its premium, token-based pricing and emphasis on print-ready quality make it best suited to users for whom output quality justifies the cost rather than casual hobbyists.

Magnific was bootstrapped by its founders and did not raise disclosed venture funding before being acquired by Freepik in 2024; the acquisition terms were not publicly disclosed.
