Cody

Sourcegraph was founded in 2013 by Quinn Slack and Beyang Liu, and built its reputation on universal code search across large, multi-repository codebases. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and serves large enterprise engineering teams.

Cody was introduced as Sourcegraph's AI coding assistant, extending the company's code intelligence platform with AI-powered chat, completions, and automated edits. In 2025 Sourcegraph consolidated Cody into its Enterprise offering, discontinuing standalone Free and Pro plans.

Cody provides AI chat, autocomplete, inline edits, and automated fixes, using deep codebase indexing and multi-repository context so responses reflect an organization's actual code. Administrators can select from multiple underlying models, including Anthropic Claude and OpenAI and Google models.

Enterprise capabilities include unlimited code search, SSO/SCIM, SOC 2 Type II compliance, guarantees that customer code is not used for training, and options for self-hosting or air-gapped BYO-cloud deployment. Cody integrates into IDEs such as VS Code and JetBrains.

Cody targets large engineering organizations and enterprises, particularly those already using Sourcegraph for code search, that need AI coding assistance with broad codebase context, security controls, and compliance guarantees.

Cody is a product of Sourcegraph, which has raised substantial venture funding. Sourcegraph raised a $125 million Series D in 2021 led by Andreessen Horowitz at a reported $2.625 billion valuation, following a $50 million Series C in 2020. Earlier investors include Sequoia Capital, Craft Ventures, and Redpoint Ventures. Total funding raised is reported at over $220 million.
