Module 1: The Basics

Your first prompts

Simple habits that get you much better results.

Now the fun part: actually using AI. The secret to getting great results is simple — it's mostly about how you ask. These few habits, which anyone can learn, make a huge difference.

Be specific. Vague questions get vague answers. Instead of "write an email," try "write a short, friendly email to my landlord asking to fix a leaky faucet that's been dripping for a week." The more clearly you say what you want, the better the result.

Give context. Tell the AI the relevant details. Replying to a message? Paste in the message you're replying to. Planning something? Give the specifics (dates, budget, who's involved). AI can only help with what you tell it — more context means a better, more tailored answer.

Ask for the format you want. Want a bullet list? A short paragraph? A step-by-step guide? Just say so: "give me this as a numbered list" or "explain this simply in two sentences." The AI will match what you ask for.

The most important habit — go back and forth. Treat AI like a conversation, not a one-shot machine. Your first answer is a draft. If it's not quite right, just say so:

  • "Make it shorter."
  • "That's too formal — make it friendlier."
  • "Add a part about X."
  • "Explain that last bit more simply."

This iteration — refining through a couple of rounds — is where the best results come from. Don't settle for a so-so first answer; nudge it toward what you want.

A simple recipe to remember: be specific about what you want, give the context it needs, ask for the format you'd like, and refine the answer. That's it — no technical skill required.

Just try it — you can't break anything. The best way to learn is to experiment. Ask the AI anything, try the task you had in mind, and play with refining the results. It's conversational and forgiving — if it misunderstands, just clarify and continue. There's no wrong way to explore, and you'll quickly get a feel for it.

The mindset: getting great results from AI is mostly about how you ask — be specific about what you want, give context (the relevant details), ask for the format you'd like, and, above all, iterate: treat the first answer as a draft and refine it ("shorter," "friendlier," "add X") over a couple of rounds. These simple, no-skill-needed habits are the difference between mediocre and genuinely helpful results. So just try it — experiment freely, because you can't break anything, and you'll get the feel fast.

Try it

Try it now on a real task: ask your AI assistant to help with something (like drafting a message you actually need). Do it well — be *specific*, give *context*, and ask for the *format* you want. Then *refine* it: tell it what to change ('shorter,' 'friendlier,' 'add X') a couple of times. Notice how much better the result gets when you steer it. You're now using AI!
