Module 1: Getting Real Value from AI

Your first productivity win

A hands-on first workflow to feel the real benefit.

Enough principles — the best way to understand AI productivity is to get one real, measured win. This lesson walks you through applying AI to a first workflow so you feel the genuine benefit (and see the review discipline in action) before building further.

Pick your win. Choose one frequent, well-defined, low-stakes task (from the 'where to start' lesson). Great candidates for a first win:

  • Summarizing — take a long email thread, article, or document and have AI give you the key points and any action items. Fast, useful, easy to verify.
  • Drafting — have AI draft a routine email, message, or short document from your bullet points, then you edit and send.
  • Notes to actions — give AI your messy meeting or brainstorm notes and have it extract a clean list of tasks and decisions.

Any of these gives a quick, tangible taste of AI saving you real time.

Do it with the discipline. Apply what you've learned: give AI a clear, specific request (what you want, in what form); let it produce the draft or summary; then review and decide — check the important points against the source, fix the tone, verify anything factual, and make it yours before you use it. Feel the two-part rhythm: AI's fast first pass, your review.

Measure it honestly. Time it: how long did this task take you before, and how long now — including your review? Was the output good enough after your edits? Be honest. If it genuinely saved net time and the quality held, you've found a real win to keep. If it took as long once you fixed everything, that's useful information too — either adjust how you prompt, or conclude it's not a great AI task and try another.

Build from the win. A single real, measured productivity win does two things: it gives you a genuine time-saver to keep using, and it teaches you the rhythm (specific request → AI draft → your review → measure) that you'll apply to every future workflow. That's the foundation. From here, the rest of the course expands into specific areas — email, notes, planning, research — but they all use this same rhythm you've now practiced.

The takeaway: get one real, measured productivity win to feel the genuine benefit. Pick a frequent, low-stakes task — summarizing a long thread/document, drafting a routine message, or turning messy notes into action items — and do it with the discipline: a clear specific request, AI's draft/summary, then your review (verify key points, fix tone, make it yours) before using it. Measure honestly whether it saved net time including your review, and whether the quality held. A single measured win gives you a keeper time-saver and teaches the rhythm — specific request → AI draft → your review → measure — that every future workflow uses.

Try it

Get your first win now: pick a summarizing, drafting, or notes-to-actions task and actually do it with AI, applying the review discipline. Time it against your baseline (including your review). Did it save net time and hold quality? You've just felt the real benefit and practiced the rhythm you'll use everywhere — that's your foundation.
