Modulos AG is a Swiss technology company founded in 2018 as a spin-off of ETH Zurich by Prof. Ce Zhang and Kevin Schawinski, who serves as CEO. Headquartered in Zurich, the company originally focused on data-centric AI and later concentrated on AI governance and regulatory compliance as frameworks like the EU AI Act took shape.

Modulos has built regulatory credibility through active participation in bodies including the EU AI Office, the CEN/CENELEC European standards body, the AI Safety Institute at NIST, and the Spanish government high-risk AI sandbox program. It presents itself as a trusted voice in global AI regulation and emphasizes its ISO 42001 product conformity certification.

The Modulos AI Governance Platform is organized around governance, risk, compliance and AI agents. Governance features cover project dashboards, AI system lifecycle tracking and ownership workflows. Risk features provide portfolio-wide risk overviews and monetary risk quantification, while compliance features support multiple frameworks at once through shared controls and automated documentation.

The platform integrates across MLOps, LLMOps and auditing infrastructures, and uses AI agents to monitor, adapt and help maintain alignment with evolving regulations. The agents quantify risk, assess controls and map evidence, while human teams review and decide, keeping a human-in-the-loop model across assessments.

Modulos targets medium and large enterprises and regulated organizations that must govern AI systems at scale, particularly those preparing for EU AI Act enforcement, pursuing ISO 42001 certification or implementing the NIST AI RMF. Typical users include compliance officers, risk managers, data scientists and business stakeholders who need a shared, audit-ready governance environment.

Modulos has raised a reported total of around USD 17.2 million. In July 2025 it announced a CHF 8.7 million pre-Series A round, supported by existing investors who backed the company since early EU AI Act development, intended to advance and scale its compliance automation platform. Reported investors across its history include 1kx, Variant Fund, Beyond Gravity Launchpad and ETH Zurich, among others. Exact valuation figures are not publicly disclosed.
